The C35 EF has a small but genuine place in camera history. Introduced in 1975, it was the world's first compact camera with a built-in flash, earning the nickname "Pikkari" in Japan, and it went on to become one of the most recognisable compacts of its era. Andy Warhol was famously fond of his, using it at Studio 54 and at exhibition openings throughout the late 1970s. The 38mm f2.8 Hexanon lens is sharp and characterful, producing images with good contrast and a pleasing rendering. Zone focus via pictograms on the lens barrel is straightforward to use, and the CdS meter handles auto exposure with an exposure lock on a half-press of the shutter. The pop-up flash adjusts aperture automatically based on focus distance. A compact, lightweight, and historically interesting camera that is a genuine joy to shoot with.
