We like the Zoom 105-R for being a more capable camera than its compact point and shoot appearance suggests. The 38-105mm f4 zoom is built from 11 elements in 9 groups, which is a serious optical construction for a compact, and it covers a very versatile range from wide group shots to a solid telephoto for portraits and travel details. The power zoom can be operated continuously or stepped through fixed focal lengths at 38, 46, 55, 70, 85, and 105mm, with the current focal length shown on the top LCD. There's a macro mode down to 0.75m, a hidden super macro mode down to 0.45m, consecutive shooting at 1.3 frames per second, bulb mode up to 60 minutes, multi-exposure, and a self-timer with up to five frames. Red-eye reduction, focus lock, and infrared autofocus round out a very rich feature set for a point and shoot. A chunky but capable camera with a lot going on under the surface.
